Born and raised in Ithaca, New York, currently resides in Santa Fe, Rebecca Mapes has always had a penchant for the pure and calm forms found in nature. Sunny, joyful, sometimes whimsical, & definitely gourmet, Sarah encaptured the essence of Mediterranean spirit through embroidery and her paintings, as if they were sensitive pieces, Œuvres sensibles. We can almost smell the anchovy, oysters, toasted grains in the slight briny air, with some being reminiscent of everything from wild wet hair, dried laundry, to gatherings on the terrace during long golden hours.
Highly inspired and influenced by her upbringing in Kragerø/Norway with its contrasts of serene light and raw nature, Thea’s work focus on the beauty in simplicity like unexpected, often overseen details. Her fine art practice raises questions about ecological and climate issues and engages the viewer to explore the relationship between the human body and its surroundings. Here, Thea took us on a virtual journey to her hometown, Kragerø, discover and reconnecting with the mother nature.
